PEOPLE
Famous, infamous and almost unknown

The great, the good, the almost unknown and the downright murderous are all here in Bracon Ash and Hethel!

CAN YOU HELP to identify the people in the Photo-Gallery? Some distinctive faces there who may have descendants scattered across the world. There are more photos of men of the village who went to war - and some who never returned.

Maybe you have more stories and information about local families with community links, such as Gladys Watling, whose family the Post Office Stores, or the Myhill family, farmers and harness makers.

There are people well-known in their time who lived in mansions and have monuments in the churches - the Branthwayts and Beevors of Hethel Hall and church; the Berneys of Bracon Hall and the Corboulds of Bracon Lodge and Woodlands, both with memorials in Bracon Ash church.

And the murderer? James Rush of Hethel who murdered his landlord and his son (and nearly murdered their womenfolk, too) at nearby Stanfield Hall and whose trial and execution became a sensation in 1849.
